Fall in Jim Thorpe is made for wandering. This board turns the walk into a game: spot each thing as you explore downtown and across the bridge. Great for kids, and honestly kind of fun for the adults too.
Playing with kids? Print a couple of copies before you leave the car so everyone has their own. Pair it with the visiting-with-kids guide for where to eat and what they'll actually like.
Honorable mentions
Off the board because they're a drive rather than a walk, but worth it if you've got the time:
- The Jim Thorpe Memorial & statue — the athlete's mausoleum and a life-sized bronze of him in his football uniform, on North Street on the east side of town. A short drive (or a longer walk) from downtown.
- Flagstaff Mountain overlook (the "100 Mile View") — a sweeping view over the whole town and gorge, about a mile up Flagstaff Road. It's a drive, sits on private property, and has had on-and-off construction lately, so check access and mind posted signs before you go.
- The Glen Onoko area of Lehigh Gorge State Park — for the rail trail and river. Note the Glen Onoko Falls trail itself has been closed since 2019; the rail trail is what's open.
